New fortune austin dim sum menu11/3/2023 ![]() ![]() Northern and especially Sichuan flavors have taken over the food scene, and while few newer restaurant owners are actually Sichuanese, they open places that offer those flavors because that’s what’s popular and now we see ma la this and that, hand pulled noodles, and northern style dumplings as attractions. I’ve heard that any type of true Cantonese restaurants in general are supposedly a dying breed in the US because that’s no longer the dominant recent immigrant group and the Cantonese/Toisan/Teo Chew restaurant owners of yesteryear are retiring and like with any other group, the kids go into other fields and don’t want to have restaurants. I’m not sure what to make of the comparison to Din Tai Fung because that’s not at all in the same genre of restaurant as a dedicated dim sum restaurant. New fortune wasnt as good, but was close.Īlso have had good dim sum in flushing ny, and some random places in los angeles, hong kong, taiwan etc. ![]() The experience is for austin's trendy.Īs an example din tai fung (a chain) makes very good soup dumplings and spicy wontons. Dim Sum is not gourmet food and at least once the food was so over salted I couldnt eat it. Ive tried lin and qi multiple times and just dont like them. We check in periodically and they still might open a place which would likely be in cedar park. We do go to jade (same owners as new fortune) but it doesnt have the variety that new fortune had. Then one by one their quality dropped (had a very gross congee at shanghai), fortune opened and then new fortune (I thought they took chinatowns chefs). TLDR: what is the current solid not hipster/trendy/white person dim sum?Įver since new fortune closed we have been missing dim sum.īefore new fortune and fortune, shanghai, chinatown, and t&s seafood were all solid.
